Co - Curricula
Penola Catholic College seeks to develop its students in all aspects of life - not only academically but also physically, spiritually, culturally and socially. The Co-curricular program is an essential part of a full school life, offering opportunities beyond the classroom for students:
- To develop their personal skills in a range of service and leisure activities which they can continue into adult life.
- To make a significant contribution to the wider life of the College.
- To gain experience in leadership and in working within a team to achieve a common goal.
We encourage every student to commit to at least one activity during the year. Recognition of each student's involvement is recorded on Semester Reports.
Some senior students may be tempted to present study commitments as an excuse for not participating in Co-curricular activities. Such an attitude is generally mistaken; it is a widely accepted truth in schools that students who have a full life outside the classroom tend to perform better academically. The aim is to get the balance between classroom commitments and co-curriculum right for the individual. While some can enjoy a range of extra activities without adversely affecting their class work, for others one may be sufficient. It is important to be realistic about our strengths and limitations.
Information about each term's activities appears in the College Daily Bulletins, the College Display Boards and in Newsletters.
