Pastoral Care & Structures

Pastoral care at Penola Catholic College focuses upon the development of the whole person. Supportive structures have been established to assist all students.

We provide a rich Pastoral Care Program. Formal Pastoral sessions, as well as age specific programs, on issues that are relevant to young people, are run at all year levels.

Home groups are pivotal units within the College. Home group teachers and Year Level Co-ordinators work to promote the welfare of all students, ensuring that no one child is overlooked. Two Year Level Co-ordinators are appointed to each year level. Home groups at Years 7 & 8 consist of a maximum of 26 students, groupings for Years 9 to 12 are topped at 30 students.

Transition Programs are designed to support new students entering the school to settle quickly and happily into their new environment.

The services provided by our Educational Psychologists, our Chaplains and Home School Liaison Officer are additional ways we support the wider needs of our community.

The College has in place a Positive Relations Policy and is proactive in its work on student resilience.

All students are encouraged to show leadership by accepting responsibility for their own work and behaviour and for creating a safe, caring and productive environment for all.

Our student leadership structure provides opportunities for students to exercise more specific leadership roles in the College.

Training is provided for students elected to official positions such as College Captains, College Vice Captains, House Captains and Student Council members. Captains are also appointed in areas such as Public Speaking, Christian Service and Music. Additional opportunities for leadership exist through the Peer Support and Co-Curricular Programs run within the College.
