Memorial Mass 2022

On Thursday 10 November at 7.30 pm in the evening, we will celebrate our annual Memorial Mass, where we remember all those who have passed from our extended Penola Catholic College community. This will be held in our beautiful St Joseph’s Chapel on the Broadmeadows Campus at 29 Gibson Street, Broadmeadows. This occasion provides an opportunity to come together to pray for and share memories of our deceased loved ones and our faith in God’s continuing providence. All families and friends of the College are very welcome to attend or if you choose, you will be able to view the Mass from home via livestream on the night. A link for the livestream can be forwarded to you if you send an email request to Mrs Melissa Fry on mfry@penola.vic.edu.au.

As a dedication to those we remember at our Mass, each family is asked to email / send us a photo of their loved one. These will all be placed in front of the alter and utilised during the Mass in our special memorial tribute. Please send your loved one’s photo to Melissa Fry by Friday 4 November (using the above email address) so that we have enough time to print and frame it in time for the Mass.

Year 12 Graduation Mass

On 18 October, we celebrated our Year 12 Graduation Mass and Award Ceremony. It was truly a beautiful occasion with the majority of Year 12s, their Parents and well-wishers present. There is no better way to conclude our Year 12 students’ time here at Penola Catholic College than by sharing in the Eucharist together as a community. The Mass was an opportunity to stop, reflect and to thank and praise God for the wonderful gift that we have in each of our Year 12s and for the growth, the achievements and many success stories that they all represent. I don’t think we could ask God for a greater gift than that and therefore, this really was a Mass of much thanksgiving.

We have a tradition at the College whereby at the commencement of each year every Year 7 student’s name and any new staff member’s name is placed into our Sacred Penola Catholic College Community Chest symbolising that we each belong to and are very significant members of our Penola Catholic College Community. Thus, for our Year 12 students, their names were placed into the Sacred Chest in 2017 and have remained remain there ever since. During Mass, the Sacred Chest was placed near the Altar symbolising that each of us within the Penola community are also a part of our Lord’s family and are always welcomed at His table. Although, our Year 12 students are now in the process of formally finishing with us at Penola, their names will remain in our Sacred Chest, symbolising that although they are departing, they always remain members of our community and will always be welcome back.

Congratulations M22
Congratulations to M22, our wonderful Ministry Band, who have just entered the Christian Music Chart’s Top 30, with their latest recording, “Footsteps.” What an absolutely an amazing achievement by these students. It is probably a first for any school ministry band - to write and record a song which is so good that it has broken into the music charts at such a high level. The song is currently being aired on Christian radio stations such as 96.3 and Light Mix FM. The song is available on Spotify and Youtube and you can also follow M22 on Instagram and TikTok. If you haven’t checked them out as yet, what are you waiting for?

Year 9 Reflection Days
The Year 9 Reflection Days have taken place over the past few weeks at the Hope Centre in Glenroy. These have again provided our students with an opportunity to stop and reflect on their lives and the benefits that faith offers by looking through the lens of the Snakes and Ladders in life and the building of resilience. The days were facilitated by Paul Salmon, assisted by our RE staff, who all provided the energy and enthusiasm needed to ensure the days were a wonderful success and of great benefit to our students.
